What are Dental Bridges?

Not having one or more teeth, in addition to aesthetic issues and the adverse effect on the smile, causes tooth displacement, increased load on other teeth when chewing, wear of the tooth enamel, and digestive problems.

Dentists recommend repairs immediately after the absence of a tooth. One cost-efficient method is to use dental bridges that can be placed for one or more teeth.

As the name implies, the structure of a dental bridge is placed exactly over the remaining gap caused by the damaged tooth.

The teeth on both sides of the gap act as anchors while the gap in the middle is filled with one or more pontics. Then, after the placement, the tooth bridges present a natural appearance. For a number of decades, dental bridges have been the most popular method for fixed prostheses.

4 Steps of Installing Dental Bridges in Iran

Pre-treatment Consultation

The initial consultation is done by a specialist in order to choose the best option in terms of aesthetics and cost.

Carving the Teeth

This procedure is performed under local anesthesia, which involves carving the teeth around the missing teeth so that enough space is available to install the bridge.

Depending on the specific situation, a minor step may be needed in order to create an opening to observe the generated tooth.

Mold of the Tooth

The dentist makes a mold of the tooth and then sends it to the laboratory. This form is utilized as the basis for the new bridge.

The time required to make the dental bridge is 7 to 14 days, during which you will be given a temporary bridge. Also, the dentist will examine the natural color of the tooth in order to match the color of the bridge with the natural teeth.

Bridge testing & attaching

After the new bridge is ready, the dentist tests it on the jaw, then the bridge is attached to the bases using tooth cement.

The Various Types of Dental Bridges in Iran

Traditional Dental Bridge

The most common dental bridge in Iran is the traditional dental bridge. This type of bridge consists of two dental crowns and an artificial tooth that is attached to the surrounding abutments.

The dental crowns act as anchors for the artificial tooth which is placed in the gap between the two teeth in the form of a bridge. The most important advantages of traditional dental bridges in Iran are their strength and their main problem is the ear they cause in the two adjacent teeth.

Cantilever Dental Bridge

These bridges are structurally different from traditional dental bridges and only one tooth is used as an anchor.

Due to the greater pressure on the posterior teeth and the weak anchor of the base tooth bridge, these bridges are most often recommended for the front tooth. Thus, this type of bridge is used less than other types of dental bridges in Iran.

On the other hand, the use and placement of base bridges on a tooth save time and money; but we must be sure of their stability and safety.

Maryland Bonded Bridge

The structure of the Maryland dental bridge is similar to traditional dental bridges, but instead of using a dental crown as an anchor, metal or ceramic frame is utilized.

One of the positive features of this type of dental bridge is that it prevents the teeth adjacent to the dental bridge from being worn and is simply stuck to the back of the frame.

In principle, the Maryland bonded bridge is a cost-effective and reliable alternative to traditional dental bridges in Iran. The strength of a Maryland bonded bridge depends on the adhesive used and the metal frame alters the color of the tooth.

Implant Supported Bridge

Implant-supported dental bridges have the same structure as traditional dental bridges in Iran but they are anchored on dental implants.

Thus, implant-supported bridges do not require adjacent teeth and they can be used for large gaps caused by several missing teeth.

Dental implants are known for their strength, durability, and ability to restore normal function. Furthermore, this method demands a long period of treatment and recovery time.

Hello, Generally are dental bridges removable?
If yes, how much does it cost for a dental bridge to be removed and Re-cemented?

      • Mitramedical 2021-06-09 at 20:56

Hi Isabell, As we say in the article Some kinds of dental bridges are removable. A removable dental bridge replaces one or more missing teeth to help restore function and/or aesthetics. Unlike a fixed bridge, a removable dental bridge may bridge one or more spans of missing teeth in the same dental arch and does not require a tooth on each side of the missing teeth.
