Tummy Tuck in Iran

Based on the latest statistics provided by the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, (ISAPS), Tommy Tuck is the 4^th most popular and performed surgery in the world. In over 90 % of the cases, women have had this cosmetic surgery done on them. In the meantime, The United States and Brazil have the largest number of Tommy Tuck surgeries being performed worldwide.

Events such as giving birth to a baby, previous abdominal surgeries such as the cesarean operation, aging, rapid weight loss, etc. lead to the loosening of the skin, fat accumulation, and abdominal muscle tissue breakdown, and the Tummy Tuck surgery is the best choice of cosmetic surgery in these cases.

Generally speaking, the main objective of all methods of the Tummy Tuck surgical procedures is to achieve greater aesthetics by removing the accumulated subcutaneous fat, repairing the ruptured muscle tissue, or removing the excess skin tissue in the abdominal area.

Depending on the aims to be achieved, 6 different methods of abdominoplasty are performed:

Endoscopic Tummy Tuck is also called endoscopic abdominoplasty. Circular Tummy Tuck is more invasive compared to other Tummy Tuck surgeries. This procedure is also called a Circumferential Tummy Tuck or  360-Degree Tummy Tuck, or Belt Lipectomy.

A Full Tummy Tuck is also referred to as a Traditional or Classic Abdominoplasty.

A full abdominoplasty procedure repairs the abdominal muscles that have become damaged due to childbirth, etc. In many cases, fat can be removed using other methods. But removing excess skin is only possible through abdominoplasty.

Before Tummy Tuck, you will have a consultation meeting with your physician in order to review your current and previous illnesses, and the surgeries you may have had in the past. During this session, the doctor will examine your abdominal muscles, the amount and type of fat tissue, as well as your abdomen skin and its flexibility. The following tests will also be carried out:

1. Electrocardiogram: To assess your heart rhythm and function.
2. Pulmonary Function Test: To evaluate the function of your lungs.
3. Primary Blood Test: To check for any infections or anemia, and evaluate kidney function.

Then, pictures will be taken of your abdomen area, and your doctor will tell you what you can expect regarding the outcome of your treatment.

On the day of the tummy tuck, and before you are put under anesthesia, the surgeon will make the necessary markings on the areas to be operated on, so that the incision can be made in a location that will be covered by your underwear.

• The First Step: Medication is used based on the surgeon’s opinion so that you do NOT feel any pain during the Tummy Tuck in Iran. Intravenous Sedation or General Anesthesia is applied.
• The Second Step: The surgeon applies the first cut in the lower abdomen area depending on the amount of skin and accumulated fat and then lifts the skin in order to access the abdominal muscles and then compresses the discrete abdominal muscles. The second cut is made vertically on both sides of the belly button in order to remove the excess skin on the upper abdomen. in this step, the umbilical cavity will be moved to gain a normal form.
• The Third Step: After the excess skin is removed, the skin is stitched on both sides and medical care is provided in the hospital for 24 hours after the surgery.

• The patient will need to be hospitalized for 1 or 2 days.
• The patient may experience pain in the early days.
• They can return to doing their daily chores after a week.

• The final result of a tummy tuck will be evident 3 to 6 months after the surgery has been carried out.
• Despite the fact that the results of the surgery are permanent, if you do NOT exercise, have a poor diet, and become pregnant again, the results of your treatment will disappear.

A study that has been published in the PubMed scientific journal reviewed the cases of 268 patients who underwent cosmetic abdominal surgery. Out of the 25 patients who had undergone  abdominoplasty, merely 2 had experienced complications (which had been resolved), and they were all satisfied with their surgery.

• The studies that Dr. Julian Winocour of Vanderbilt University has carried out amongst 25,000 patients who have had the abdominoplasty surgery performed on them worldwide between 2008 to 2013 indicate serious side effects in 4 % of the patients. Something around twice more than other cosmetic surgeries.
• Hematomas or Blood Collection was reported to be the most common post-surgery side effect.
• This risk reaches as high as 10 % when the operation is accompanied by Lipomatic or Liposuction surgeries. That is, about twice as high as when the Tummy Tuck alone is performed.

Swelling after a tummy tuck is a common occurrence and depending on the extent of your tummy tuck and if you have liposuction at the same time.

Most patients will have significant swelling in the first two weeks but most of that will resolve after 6 weeks. Finally, You should expect swelling to last 3-6 months.

Some methods of Tummy Tuck surgery are More invasive than the others.

• The minimum recovery period will be 2 weeks.
• The patient must wear special compression garments (shapewear) for at least one month.

3. The post-surgery recovery period of a panniculectomy treatment and wound healing is longer compared to a cosmetic abdominoplasty.
4. In some cases, it is necessary to make two incisions to carry out a panniculectomy surgery. But only 1 incision is made during a Tummy Tuck surgery.
5. The duration of a panniculectomy surgery is 2 to 5 hours. However, it takes 2 to 4 hours to carry out a cosmetic abdominoplasty.
