The Royan Research Institute was founded in 1991 by Professor Saeid Kazemi Ashtiani, who is one of the most prominent Iranian figures. The Royan Research Institute has 3 research institutes in the cities of Tehran and Isfahan and consists of 2 specialized treatment centers, one for infertility treatment and one for cell therapy.

The most significant reason behind the high international reputation of the Royan Research Institute is its invaluable and unique activities in the field of human in vitro fertilization (IVF) and the production and isolation of various embryonic tissues, cryopreservation of germ cells and human embryos, ovaries and human embryos’ bank.

One of the well-known and influential researchers in this institute is Professor Baharvand – who won the TWAS award in 2019.
