Breast Implants vary in size, shape, and material. Which breast implant is ideal for each individual patient depends on personal aesthetic preferences. Other individual factors such as height, structure, and elasticity of the breast skin must also be taken into account.

There are three main types of breast implants: Silicone, Saline, and Gummy Bear.

Silicone breast implants are more commonly used, and the advances in these prostheses over the past few decades have made them look, move, and feel more like natural breasts.

These implants are basically silicone shells that are filled with silicone gel. The outer shell is made of silicone elastomers and is usually double-layered. This double coating provides a high level of protection against damage and improves the results in terms of breast shape and complexion.

Many women appreciate the soft, natural feel of silicone implants. Another key feature of the new generation implants utilized is the use of so-called cohesive silicone gel as a filler.

Compared to the liquid silicone gel used in the past, cohesive silicone gel prevents the risk of silicon leakage. Furthermore, it ensures better dimensional stability of the implant.

On the other hand, silicone implants are filled by the manufacturer, and require a slightly bigger surgical incision for placement. Also, because silicon is perfectly cohesive, it is difficult to detect breakage & leaks. However, silicon is known as a safe material worldwide. In fact, approximately 9 out of 10 patients who undergo a breast augmentation choose a silicone implant because of the natural look and feel it creates.

Saline breast implants are popular among patients who want to avoid silicone for medical reasons or prefer implants that are made from natural materials. Saline implants, as their name implies, are filled with a sterile saline solution.

These implants can be filled with different amounts of saline solution, which ultimately affects the complexion, firmness, and shape of the breast.

If the implant shell breaks, the saline solution will be absorbed and excreted naturally by the body. Although many women say that silicone gel implants are more similar to natural breasts when compared with saline solution implants, silicone implants pose a greater risk if they leak.

The advantage of saline implants is that the saline solution is injected after the placement of the implant shell itself. Some of these implants can be resized after surgery.

Accordingly, the shells can be placed through smaller incisions. Also, due to the nature of the filling, the body immediately absorbs the saline solution in case of possible leakage or breakage.

Adjustable implants have a valve that can stay in place for up to 6 months after surgery, allowing saline fluid to be injected in or taken out of the shell in order to adjust the implant size. Many women know that choosing the right implant size can be confusing and difficult. Adjustable breast implants are a good option for women who have larger breasts but are not sure how their new implants will look and feel.

Gummy bear breast implants are the newest development available in the market. Gummy bear implants have an ergonomic (teardrop) shape and are made of thicker silicone-like gel.

Some physicians state that gummy bear implants move less after they are put in place. The stable form of these implants is sometimes referred to as a bear breast implant because it retains its shape even when the shell is broken. Putting in place gummy bear implants requires making a slightly longer incision in the skin.

Various shapes of implants are available to match the appearance of a normal breast. Implants vary in width, and width of the base.

Traditionally, breast implants have a round shape, which makes them easy to place without the risk of movement. This is due to the fact that when a round implant moves and rotates, the shape of the breast does not change, but the disadvantage of such an implant is that this breast shape does not always look entirely natural.

Ergonomic implants, in turn, allow you to have the ideal breast shape, which is more natural in appearance. The disadvantage of this type of breast implant is that with possible rotation, the shape of the breast can also change. However, to return the breast to its original shape, you simply need to manually adjust the implant in its place.
