Breast Augmentation Using Fat Injection or Implants?

Breast augmentation surgery is one of the medical treatments that some women are interested in having. There are several techniques for this surgery, each with its own advantages and disadvantages. But the most important question for women is: breast augmentation using fat injection or implants?

In this article, we are going to examine the procedure regarding both methods, and their advantages & disadvantages.

Who is Suitable for Having a Breast Augmentation Surgery?

  1. Patients over the age of 18
  2. Patients with very small breasts
  3. Patients with sagging breasts
  4. Patients who have had their breasts drained

Breast Augmentation Using Fat Injection:

In this technique, fat tissue is removed from parts of the body such as the abdomen and thighs, and injected into the breast(s) through small incisions. To use this method, the patient should NOT be too thin. This being the case, it will NOT be possible to increase breast volume using this technique.

Advantages of Breast Augmentation Using Fat Injection:

  • Synthetic materials are not used in the body.
  • The incisions made are very small and there is usually no scarring.
  • Short recovery period
  • It is possible to reduce the amount of fat in other parts of the body to use for injection into the breast(s)

Disadvantages of Breast Augmentation Using Fat Injection:

  • Breast size can be increased by only one size
  • It is NOT possible to achieve ideal size and shape, as is possible with implants
  • Problems with breast cancer testing (mammography)
  • There should be sufficient fat in other parts of the body

Breast Augmentation Using Implants:

In this technique, a foreign object, that being the silicone or saline implant, is inserted into the breast through incisions made under the breast or in the armpits.

The choice between silicone or saline implants may vary depending on the patient’s condition. Stitches will be used in this procedure, and there is usually no scarring.

Advantages of Breast Augmentation Using Implants:

  • Achieving the desired breast form and shape
  • Achieving symmetry in the breasts
  • Short recovery period
  • There is no need to remove fat tissue from other parts of the body, as with the fat injection technique
  • It is possible to remove the implant(s) later

Disadvantages of Breast Augmentation Using Implants:

• Placing a foreign object inside the body
• Problems with mammography testing in some cases
• Probability of the need for replacing the implants over a period of 10 years
• More unnatural appearance when compared with the fat injection technique
• Risk of rupture and leakage

Breast Augmentation Using Breast Implants or Fat Injection to Breast

Choosing between the 2 surgical procedures for breast augmentation depends on your condition, and the mental image you have regarding the surgery.

If you want to increase your breast size by more than one size, breast implant surgery is a better option for you. But if you want to have a normal breast size, and simultaneously reduce the amount of fat in other parts of your body, the fat injection method will be a better option for you.

Both of these techniques are safe enough, and the side effects of these procedures are very rare.

The best thing to do is to consult your physician before surgery in order to determine Breast Implants or Fat Injection to Breast that best fits your condition.
